Dear 2010,
And so it comes time for us to part ways. I do hope we can be remain the best of friends, even though I’m planning on leaping into the arms of another, hopefully even better year.
Still, I won’t pretend it hurts to leave you. After all, we’ve had some pretty good times together.
I won an international blogging award and made my own JPEG as my prize. I was briefly wooed and then unceremoniously dumped by an internationally-renowned literary agent. And I then went on to write a series of open letters to my cat, Gisele Bundchen, my hangover and my husband’s hangover.
Back at home, Mr Justice turned eight and I was finally able to write about his birth, subsequently popularising the ‘pubic mullet’. Mr Justice, in turn, led a one-boy campaign in preventing a plastic doll from being legally declared his ‘sister’.
The Pixie started school, joined the ranks of the Girls Who Wear Glasses and gave me the best night of my life at the school disco.
Tiddles McGee finally got to have his mummy all to himself and bid farewell to nappies, bringing a long era of nappy bags and arse-wiping to an end.
And my husband grew a beard and (allegedly) went on a twelve-day Asian sex tour with the local rugby club.
I also got to interview an inflatable Brad Pitt, befriend a whole gaggle of Hugh Jackmans on facebook and inadvertently give my friend a vibrator for her birthday. I went on to threaten a major Australian advertising agency with my splatter-crapping cat and have a midlife crisis whilst sitting with a king-sized doona cover on my head.
I then turned 40 in the best way possible and managed to persuade everyone that I really was sohotrightnow just through sheer force of personality.
Yep, a lot of good times, 2010. Good times. Classic hits.
Man, you’re going to be a hard act to follow…
Love
The NDM
Still you are sohotrightnow and I’m sure you will continue to be sohotin2011
Happy New Year and thanks for the giggles 😀
Wow. After a year like that, I’d imagine you’d still want to be friends. Maybe have the odd casual, for-old-times-sake, hot passionate afternoon in bed together…?
A public dumping by letter just seems so…harsh.
If I were 2011, I’d be nervous…
🙂
I can’t wait to see what 2011 holds for you, NDM. 🙂 Sohotrightthen!
As a fellow 40yo, I want to know: why is it that when you’re young and attractive, you have no idea what to do with your body and no self-confidence? Why do I have more body confidence as a 40yo size 16, than I had as a 20yo size 12? Why didn’t I “work it” when I had it? Why did I hold back so much, instead of letting go and enjoying myself? Ah, youth *is* wasted on the young. As is the wisdom residing in sayings such as “youth is wasted on the young”. 😉
A friend and I were discussing this a few months ago. We came up with a proposal that everybody should get a “free pass” from our spouses to go back and have a “do over” with anybody we slept with before age 30, who ultimately dumped us. 😀 Who wants them remembering us as the “adequate” root that we were at age 20? Wouldn’t you rather they be made aware that now they’re missing out on a woman who’s sohotrightnow?
I think such a project would provide plenty of blog-worthy material. Mr NDM couldn’t possibly object. Particularly as you were so understanding about the 12 Day rugby club Asian Sex Tour. 😉
You’d be a shoe-in for the 2011 Bloggies!
What a year! I just re-read Mr Justice’s birth story and cried. You always walk the line perfectly between humour and honesty, that makes for a fabulously gripping read.
Happy New Year NDM!
After a year like 2010, I’d need a rest! Thanks for sharing NDM.
Well after that year can’t wait too see what 2011 is going to do! xx
A hard year to top indeed, but I imagine you’re just the woman for the job!
NDM, you’ve been as busy as a one legged tap dancer, in 2010. How the hell did you find time to blog about it all ? May 2011 lift you to greater heights. I always thought you were too short, anyway…….. PS No one pays me for my dad jokes. That’s why they’re so lame. 😉
That agent was an idiot (and also possibly a scam anyway). You are a BRILLIANT writer! Hope 2011 is as full of material for you… and also car parks with higher entrances.
Oh, I long for the no nappy days. Cheers and happy NY. xo
This year in review beats my year in review by about a million miles!
It was a good year for NDM blog. Now to newer rewards.
Oh of all the years to go into the Witness Protection Program… I’m so sorry I missed all these incredible moments in your year! But definitely looking forward to catching up and I really appreciate the way you highlight the must-reads for a constantly behind the curve reader like me.
By the way, I turned 40 as well this year… which is why I’m using a profile picture that was shot from very far away, with professional lighting and filters… three years ago. It is also why I finally plunked down the big bucks to buy my first pair of Tweezerman Tweezers and Photoshop.
Off to read the birth story! Can’t wait!
